Tips to Search for cases

·         Precious Caseapp offers access to over 7000 legal cases through its user-friendly search engine, making it a valuable tool for students and legal professionals.

·         Follow the tips below to make the most of your searches.

o    Tip 1:  Confirm the spelling of the case name before typing into the case search box

o    Tip 2: Type the case name in the search box, Letter by Letter, and scroll through the displayed results to find your case

(P.S you do not have to type the full case name in the search box. The search results are refined by each letter you type)

o    Tip 3: Separate the parties name with a letter “v”.

For example, Carlill v Carbolic Smoke Ball, (the following markers are NOT recognised “v.” “versus” “and” “&” etc)

o    Tip 4: Try other names of the case name and not necessarily the first name.

For example, to search for the case, (Asari Dokubo v Federal Republic of Nigeria, FRN, (2008) 12 NWLR (Pt. 1048) 321), you may type “Dokubo” in the search box or “Federal Republic” or “FRN”, our carefully designed search engine will reveal all cases with the typed text and you can then proceed to click the appropriate case you are looking for.

o    Tip 5: Abbreviations are without spaces, without dots and are usually put in brackets beside the full name.

For cases with abbreviations kindly type each letter of the abbreviation as one word (I.e without Spaces in between) For example, “FRN” and NOT “F R N” or CFAO and NOT “C.F.A.O..” “Ltd” and NOT “Ltd.” “Dr” and NOT “Dr.”

o    Tip 6: For cases with the following words - and” “&” “Co” “Another” “Anor” “Others” “Ors”, Kindly search by typing other words in the case name letter by letter to refine your search.

o    Tip 7: Scroll down the displayed Search Results to see all the suggested cases.

o    Tip 8:  For a broader search, search by Course, Topic or Tag (Tags are other descriptive markers for a particular case) by typing the specific Topic, Tag or Course you are interested in finding cases on

o    Tip 9:  Where a case cannot be found in the app, endeavour to click the “Request a Case” button to notify our Research Team of the missing case and we will provide you with the case and update the app so that others too can access the case.
